A new survey found that many Malaysian workers lack skills for complex jobs, especially in IT. The survey also found that 85% of workers believe it’s important for employers to provide training, but only 36% received it. This lack of skills is making it hard for hiring managers to find suitable candidates for technical roles like engineers and project developers.

Despite the lack of training, workers are eager to learn and improve their skills. 61% of those surveyed want to develop technical skills to be more productive.

To address the skills gap, Randstad recommends that employers invest in upskilling their workforce. This includes working with experts, offering relevant training, and partnering with educational institutions to offer internships. Companies can also give undergraduate students the opportunity to work on key projects and consider hiring them full-time if they meet expectations.

To succeed in hiring, companies must manage new talent expectations and upskill the local workforce. They must also focus on addressing employee expectations for effective talent attraction and management efforts.
