On Monday January 16th, a married couple, Khor Swee Boon and Ng Hui Yee, were charged with murder in the Magistrate’s Court in Kuala Lumpur. The couple were charged in connection with the death of 29-year-old Cho Lim Fong, who was killed in a bomb blast in Pandan Indah on December 29, 2022.
The couple were charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, in conjunction with Section 34 of the same code. If convicted, they could face the death penalty. Both Khor and Ng nodded in understanding when the charge was read out in court, however, no plea was recorded as the charge of murder falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
Ng’s lawyer, RSN Rayer, asked for bail to be granted to Ng as she needed to take care of her two children, aged five and seven, who were currently being cared for by her parents. However, the Deputy Public Prosecutor, Nurul Ameera Sam Kamaruddin, argued that there were no special circumstances that would warrant the granting of bail.
The Magistrate, Nurmaizan Rahim, denied Ng’s request for bail and set March 23rd as the next date for the mention of the case.
