Jho Low’s Company Under Investigation in Taiwan Post 1MDB Scandal

Taiwan investigates a company registered by Jho Low, who is facing charges of embezzlement in Malaysia and the US for his alleged role in the theft of $4.5 billion from 1MDB.

KUALA LUMPUR 19th January: The Taiwan Ministry of Justice Investigation Bureau is investigating a company registered by fugitive financier Low Taek Jho, also known as Jho Low. In episode 8 of Project Brazen, a global journalism studio and production company that specialises in fact-based narratives, the company’s co-founders Bradley Hope and Tom Wright were joined by Taipei-based journalist Chris Horton. Horton has been tracking Jho Low’s financial activities in Taiwan, including visiting his registered office.

According to Horton, the personnel at the Taiwan “instant office” on 21st December could not provide much detail due to privacy laws but they confirmed that the company registered to Jho Low (Bright Vision Investment) had been there and moved out. Instant offices in Taiwan are available for rent, with professional and efficient secretarial services.

Horton said he got in touch with the Taiwan Ministry of Economic Affairs and by the afternoon the Investigation Bureau of Taiwan announced they were investigating Jho Low’s company. He added that it was difficult to say where things would go from here but it did establish that after the 1MDB scandal became public, Jho Low did go to Taiwan. He also said Taiwan could have been a safe haven choice for Jho Low as the island state has no extradition treaties with most other major countries.
